In Alchemy there is said to be an "Emerald Tablet" holding the key to the pattern of

life.  A series of steps to understanding the workings of the universe, thus enabling one not only to turn base metals to gold but also transform oneself.

One such step was that of "fermentation", often symbolised by the peacock's tail its colours mimicking the oily film sitting on something fermenting. .

This tablet was said to be written by Hermes, but it is also believed this may have originally

been Thoth the Egyptian god of knowledge as the Greeks believed he was one and the same.

Here I have shown him as a blend of the two, overlooking those who attempt to ferment their souls and become pure enough to follow to the next stage of enlightenment.
