Gort, acrylic/ oil painting by Melinda McCarthy 16x20"

Biennale of Chianciano Italy

Langauge of the trees

Gort

Oil / Acrylic by Melinda McCarthy 2008

Originally painted as part of the collection Language of the Trees, this work was selected to show with two more recent paintings at the Biennale of Chiancino.

Gort represents Ivy. Linked to the veiled moon and the goddess Arianrhod, it's totem animal is the butterfly.

Ivy was believed to hide the entrance to the faerie world which could be opened through rituals to the goddess, and so in this picture is the faerie world, in ritual which lies behind the leaves of the ivy.
